Pre-order: The Truth May Impact Your Opinion

About six months ago, God gave me a vision to write a book. I prayed about it and

came up with an rough idea of what it would be about. A resource – to give to people that we have witnessed too. I asked my friend Todd to help me write the book. We sat down over lunch, back around March. I shared the idea with him and then together came up with an outline for the book. The idea is a book to address many of the most common objections that we hear when sharing the Gospel with people.

Following our first lunch meeting, we have had several more meetings to work on the book. We came up with a list of six common objections and each wrote about three of them. Then we put the whole thing together and worked on making the text flow from one part to the next.

In the beginning of June, we printed the first 100 copies of the book at FedEx Kinko’s. We have been handing them out, both to people that we witness too and also to people that we know to get some feedback.

The night after I got the proof of the book printed, we were on the train going to the Mavericks outreach. Riding the train I struck up a conversation with three guys. Two were older and one was a kid. I was asking them about the basketball game. The one guy was taking his son to it. Everyone expressed their opinion about who would win, who would play a good game and so forth. I swung the conversation to the spiritual and the two men squirmed a little. When I probed a little about heaven or hell, the guy with his son got up and moved to another part of the train. The other guy and I continued to converse nearly until I got to my stop. As I talked to him, he told me he did not believe in God. Eventually I asked, Robert, “what is more important: your opinion or the truth?”

Without a pause he said “truth”.

I used this analogy. I said look for the next four hours everyone can have their opinion of how the game will go down tonight. Everyone can have an opinion if Dirk will do well or not. Everyone can have their opinion about whether another Maverick player will step up to help. Or they can have an opinion, like you that the Heat will beat the Mavericks badly. He listened intently. Then I said, but in four hours from now all of these opinions will be irrelevant. They will be replaced with the truth.

He said something like, I hear you, but where are you going with this.

So then I added. In the same way, a person can have whatever opinion they want to about what happens after they die. But once they die, their opinion will be replaced with the truth. At that moment you take your last breathe your opinion will become irrelevant and only the truth will matter. He understood where I was coming from.

I reached in my pocket and pulled out the first proof of the book “The Truth May Impact Your Opinion” that Todd and I wrote. I handed it to him and said something like “my friend and I wrote this book that explains this, I simply ask that you would read it.” He agreed to read it and call me and let me know what he thought of it. I have not heard from him yet. But I still pray that I will.

We talked for another ten minutes or so and I was able to walk him through the Ten Commandments to show him where he would stand IF the God of the Bible exists. He readily admitted to being a lying, thieving, murderous, blasphemous adulterer at heart. And he easily said under that condition, he would go to Hell. But when asked if that concerned him he said no, because he does not believe there is a Hell. I gave him one of our “what is hell like” cards and I did share with him the God news of how Jesus died on the cross, rose from the dead, defeated sin and death and how he could have eternal life by repenting and trusting in Jesus.

I said good-bye and thanked him for his time. He thanked me for taking the time to talk to him.

So there it is, the first copy of the book was handed out.

I pray that Lord will grant us favor in getting the resources to print a few thousand of these. That would bring the cost per copy down under $1 to $1.50 per copy. At this time, we are taking pre-orders. If you are interested in obtaining 1, 10, 100 or more copies of this resource to hand out to people that you witness too, please contact me or call 80-BEZEUGEN so that we can discuss this further.

You can read the introduction of the book, The Truth May Impact Your Opinion, online.
