Bible verses for Evangelism

I was recently asked, “what are some key verses for Evangelism?” I came up with a list that includes the following:

  • Genesis 3:15, 6:5
  • Exodus 20
  • Isaiah 7:10-14, 9:6, 52:7, 53 (especially 1, 4, 6, 7), 55:6, 55:11, 59:1-2, 61:1
  • Jeremiah 1:5
  • Ezekiel 18:4
  • Mark 1:15
  • John 3:3, 3:16-19, 3:36, 14:1-6
  • Acts 17:30-31, 17:32
  • Romans 1:15, 3:23, 6:23, 8:1
  • 1 Corinthians 1:23-25, 15:3
  • 2 Corinthians 4:3-4
  • Galatians 3:8
  • Ephesians 2 (especially v 1, 5, 8-10)
  • Philippians2:9-11
  • Colossians 1:21-22
  • 1 Timothy 2:3-6, 4:1-3
  • 2 Timothy 4:1-5
  • Hebrews 1:1-2, 9:15, 11:24-26, 12:1-2, 12:24
  • James 2:10, 2:23, 4:14-15
  • 1 John 1:5-10, 2:2, 3:4, 3:8, 4:19, 5:2-3, 5:11-12
  • Jude 23
  • Revelation 21:8

Then I was asked “what if you were to narrow this list to 4-6 key verses that must be memorized?” So I narrowed the list to:

Out of that list if I had to pick only 6 of them

  1. Hebrews 9:27 – because it tells us that there is no reincarnation, that everyone will die and there will be a judgment. This is the lead into the good person test
  2. John 3:19 – because it shows why any man would choose not to follow Christ
  3. John 3:36 – because it shows that man has one of two places to go
  4. Mark 1:15 – because this IS the Gospel in a nut shell
  5. Romans 1:15 – because this gives me great comfort in witnessing. If I can share the gospel with someone they have everything they need to be saved.
  6. Revelation 21:8 – because this says that all liars will go to hell. Very easy to share with people with the good person test.

I’d love your input. What are your key verses to know to Evangelize? Please post a comment.

Lunchtime at Brookhaven College

On of our favorite local fishing holes for nice weather is Brookhaven College in Dallas. We went out there a few times last year. The college has a nice free speech zone by the fountain in the middle of campus. By turning in a form we can request use of the area. In order to get the kids to come and talk to us, we put up a sign advertising free water.

Last Monday, as we were putting up the sign, we already had our first customers! In an hour we handed out a case of Origin of Species books that I had left over from last November. We also handed out about fifty bottles of water and shared the Gospel one on one and in small groups the entire time. All four of us were constantly engaged in conversations.

I spoke with a man who was raised Catholic, a couple of muslims and a couple of kids who were agnostic. I also had a wonderful conversation with two young ladies who had never heard the Gospel before, but they were very receptive.

We also handed out about a half dozen copies of Mark Cahill’s One Heartbeat Away book. I pray that these kids will read these resources that they got and come to saving faith in Jesus Christ.

We look forward to going back to Brookhaven College a couple more times before the end of the spring semester.

Repent and Believe Stories Introduction

In Mark 1:15, Jesus says, ““The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.” In John 3:3, Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born againhe cannot see the kingdom of God.”

This new blog is dedicated to sharing the testimonies, stories, of those who have converted to Christianity. Every Christian has a testimony. Sharing it has several benefits:

For the believer in Jesus

  • encouragement to hear how others have come to believe
  • rejoice in the salvation of others
For the unbeliever
  • Understanding of how and why others got saved
According to the Bible there are only believers in Christ and those that do not believe. John 3:36 says, “Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.” It is our hope and prayer that through this new BLOG, through these stories, that others will be saved.

Just for background, let me share a Gospel message showing the need to be saved.

In Monopoly, there is a card like this that allows you to get out of jail. In Monopoly, going to jail happens when you land on the wrong square.  In real life, jail is the consequence when you break the law. You can’t get out of that jail free; you must pay the consequences. At the end of your life, you will stand before a judge, and be granted everlasting life in heaven, or everlasting punishment in hell, based on what you have done here on earth. Like jail, you go to hell if you break God’s laws (sin).  Have you broken God’s laws, the Ten Commandments ? Ever lied? Stolen? Hated, which Jesus calls murder? Lusted, which Jesus called adultery? Would you be innocent or guilty? Would God send you to heaven or hell? Would it be nice if avoiding hell were as simple as having a card like this?
The truth is, there is no “get out of hell free” card. God is perfectly good and just. He must punish all sin. If He did not, then He would be unjust. But because God is good, He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, fully God and fully man. Jesus never broke God’s law. He claimed to be equal with God, and to have power to forgive sin.  He claimed to know all things, and said of Himself, “I have power to lay down My life (crucified), and power to take it up again (resurrected).”

Can you get out of hell free?  No, no one can.  You can escape hell, but only at a great cost: the cost that God paid by sending His Son Jesus to die in the place of sinners, and to be raised to life on the third day. In doing so, He paid the wages that sinners rightfully earned: “For the wages of sin is death.”  It was not the price that was paid that satisfies God, but the worth of the One who paid the price: Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Jesus said “He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”  God commands you to repent, and to place your faith in the indescribable gift of His Son.  Then you can escape hell, not for free, but at the infinite value of the blood of the Son of God. www.AfterLifeCatalog.com

God sends encouragement

Tonight I went door to door. It was the first time I had been on a weeknight in a long time. Prior to the spring time change it has been dark before people would be home from work. But, now the sun is up until 8PM. So I wanted to get out and share the Gospel and also see if there was any difference in the number of people that are home.

At the second house that I went too, I was speaking to a man who claimed he could get to heaven by being a good person. I asked how he knew that and he said “by looking in here” while pointing to his heart. I explained that the Bible says that the heart of man is wicked above all things. He then claimed that the Bible was unreliable because it was written by man. I explained that man was simply God’s instrument to write it down. I asked which standard he used to measure goodness; his or God’s. He said, “mine, but it is the same as God’s.” So I explained that God’s standard is the Ten Commandments. He said OK. So I asked if he had lied and he agreed that he had. He then objected saying that he knew a lot of good Muslims and good Jews and that he believed that they would be in heaven. I said that they could go to heaven if they will repent and trust Jesus Christ to save them. We talked a short time longer. Then he accused me of speaking hatred and began to close the door. As he did, I simply said, “I’m sorry you say that, I am not spreading hate but love.” At that, the door flew back open and he said sternly, “GET OFF OF MY PROPERTY.” So I left.

It was a bit frightening. I have not been physically harmed or threatened while out going door to door. I continued to the next house, and that man would not even take a tract. Feeling discouraged, I pressed on because I know that I must not quit as people are perishing and facing God’s wrath.

Finally, I reached a house where I spoke to a believer in Christ for about half an hour. It was very encouraging. So often when witnessing, I’ll talk to someone who professes to be a “Christian” but then it turns out they are a Christian in name only. No so with this man. I asked how long he had been a Christian and he gave me his testimony and we talked for half an hour.

Saying good bye to him there were two houses left on the block. At the first of these two the house was completely dark. So I simply put a tract on the door and moved on.

At the last house, I was tempted to simply put a tract on the door and go home. It seemed to be dark as well. But as I went up the walk to the door, I could see the TV was on. So I rang the door bell. I was blessed to have another great conversation with a fellow believer. I was able to offer him some encouragement and prayer with him.

After a rough start to the evening, I am extremely thankful for the encouraging ending by speaking to these two believers.

To the end of the earth

You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth. Acts 1:8 (ESV)

This verse is Jesus’ last command before ascending to heaven. It is obviously an important message to all of His disciples. What He is saying is to take His message to our home town (Jerusalem), region (Judea) and even to our enemies (Samaria). Further than that He is saying to have a global impact – to take the Gospel “to the end of the earth!”

Bezeugen Ministries is involved in all of these areas. Through local teaching, preaching and Evangelism we are reaching local communities with the Gospel. We are seeing people repent of their sin and put their trust in Jesus.  We are working with new believers to disciple them. I’d like to invite you to attend a training seminar to learn how to share your faith in Jesus. I’d also like to invite you to share your faith daily “as you go”.  We will even provide you with free Gospel tracts to hand out through the Bezeugen Tract Club

Even with all of these things in place, Bezeugen is also reaching out “to the end of the earth.” For more than twelve months we have been sending Gospel tracts around the world. Our tracts have been sent to places including:

  • Uganda
  • Mexico
  • Cameroon
  • South Africa
  • Canada
  • Venezuela
  • Agentina
  • France
  • Scotland
  • England
  • Various places in Asia

In the past, we have sent English tracts into these regions being assured that there were people in those areas that can speak and read enough English that the tracts would be effective. Our international ministry began in Uganda with the development of the Good News / Bad News Gospel tract. We have sent more than 5000 of these tracts overseas. Praise God, they have been distributed.

Recently a couple of our friends were going to take a mission trip to Mexico. I offered to buy tracts and send them with them. As I prayed, God showed me the need to have our own Spanish Gospel tract. So I met with the couple going on the mission trip. In one afternoon we wrote two new Gospel tracts. By God’s grace and providence, I met a woman on a plane while flying to Miami in February who is married to a native Spanish speaker and offered to review the translation for us. A few weeks later, she provided me a translation of the first of these tracts. We have since printed these tracts in English and Spanish. Over 3500 of these Spanish tracts were distributed in Mexico on the first couples trip to Mexico in March. We are also using these Spanish tracts all around the United States as we meet Spanish speakers. This tract is geared towards those with a background in Catholicism.

The other tract that God gave us is more generic and eliminates cultural boundaries. As I spoke with contacts on Facebook and in email, I learned of needs to not only have this tract in English and Spanish, but also in French. Through a good friend (from France) that I met online, we were able to get the tract translated into French. The same woman from the plane has provided us with a Spanish translation.

With the help of my son, we are laying out the tract in these languages. We plan to go to print with these three languages.

It seems that God has a much bigger plan! At a recent Evangelism Seminar, we were training some folks who attend a Brazilian church. They asked if we had any resources in Portuguese. I told them about this tract idea. So one of them translated the tract into Portuguese for us. Then in speaking with a missionary I know in Uganda, he said, “Carl, the tracts in English are great, but we are starting to get into the remote areas of Uganda where no one speaks or reads English. Can you provide us some tracts in Swahili and Luganda?” I began to pray and within a couple of days, God provided us a translator to translate the tracts into Swahili. We continue to pray for a translator to translate the tract into Luganda.

So we had six languages planned. But, God was not done yet. I was introduced to some brothers in Christ that live in Pakistan. They said that they desperately need resources in Urdu. Again, I prayed for God to provide a translator and within a day, I had a volunteer to translate the tract into Urdu.

So as things stand now:

  • English version is done
  • Spanish translation is done
  • French translation is done
  • Purtuguese translation is done
  • Swahili translation is in progress
  • Urdu translation is in progress
  • Luganda translation still needs a translation resource. We continue to pray for this.

When these tracts are complete they will go to at least the following countries: United States, Canada, France, Cameroon, Uganda, Brazil and Pakistan.

So how can you help to take the Gospel “to the end of the earth”? We need financial support to complete this project. We will print a minimum of 5,000 of each of these tracts. Each 5,000 tracts printed costs us less than $100. Would you pray about making a $100 donation to Bezeugen to pay for the printing of one of these languages? If you are unable to donate $100 would you consider a smaller gift to help us with the printing of one of these languages? Could you donate $50 or $25 towards the cost of the printing?

We ship the tracts 500 at a time using flat rate shipping in “small flat rate” boxes from the United States Post Office. We have found that these boxes get delivered internationally in a timely manner. When we have used larger boxes which saves some shipping cost, the delivery time has taken up to six months!

We can ship these boxes with 500 tracts internationally to any place in the world for $13.95. Would you be willing to make a donation of $13.95 or more to help pay for the shipping of tracts to one of these countries?

We have connections with missionaries around the world that are waiting to receive these tracts to share the Gospel message with the lost in these countries. I am sure that each tract will be read by more than one person and possibly up to ten or more people. Therefore for each $13.95 sent to mail tracts, could reach 5000 people with the Gospel.

Would you please pray about supporting this endeavor?

Even if you are not able to contribute financially, please continue to pray for this outreach. God has shown Himself to be active as translators have been provided and new needs have become apparent. Your prayers are appreciated to see that this project is completed and the Gospel reaches the “end of the earth.”

Bezeugen Ministries is a project of Mountain Movers International. All gifts are tax deductible. To make a gift by check or with PayPal, please see the donation page of our web site.  If you have a specific area you would like your donation to go to please let me know.
