Where’s the Line to See Jesus?

A few days a go a friend sent me a link to this YouTube video of a song “Where is the line to see Jesus?” I invite you to watch.

I was so touched by the song. When I went to the mall, I decided to use the line to witness to people. Perhaps you’ll be able to do that as well.

I simply asked people the question from the song. “I see the line to see Santa, where is the line to see Jesus?” Of course, I got some strange looks. One photo kiosk said they could make a picture of me with Jesus.

As Christians, we know there will be a line to see Jesus one day. It is called the final judgment. Matthew 7:22-23 describes it this way

22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ 23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’

So the simple question leads quickly to a conversation about who Jesus is, and that there is a day of judgment where there will be a line to see Jesus. Actually everyone will end up in this line when they die.

Try using this line while witnessing to people during the coming weeks up to Christmas. Post a comment and let me know how it goes!

BTW, the story behind the song is touching too. You can check it out on Becky Kelley’s web site. There are some good thoughts about this video on The Farris Wheel BLOG as well!

Here are the lyrics to the song:

Christmas time was approaching

Snow was starting to fall

Shoppers choosing their presents

People filling the mall

Children waiting for Santa

With excitement and glee

A little boy tugged my sweater

Looked up and asked me

Where’s the line to see Jesus?

Is He here at the store?

If Christmas time is His birthday

Why don’t we see Him more?

As I stood in amazement

At this message profound

I looked down to thank him

He was no where around

The little boy at the mall

Might as well have had wings

As the tears filled my eyes

Thought I heard him sing

Where’s the line to see Jesus?

Is He here at the store?

If Christmas time is His birthday

Why don’t we see Him more?

Where’s the line to see Jesus?

He was born for me

Santa Claus brought me presents

But Christ gave His life for me

In the blink of an eye

At the sound of His trump

We’ll all stand in line at His throne

Every knee shall bow down

Every tongue will confess

That Jesus Christ is Lord

(Repeat Chorus)

Where’s the line?

Where’s the line?

Where’s the line for the Lord?

Share Christ this Christmas

Todd sent this suggestion. I wanted to share it with everyone.
Since we are in the Christmas season, please let me share a way that you may share Christ. Simply go to someone, anyone and ask, “Do you know why we celebrate Christmas?” Most will know the answer. Some will pretend as if they don’t because if they are running from God, they won’t want to hear that name. The sweetest name in heaven and on earth, Jesus.
Nevertheless, whether they do or don’t continue by explaining that it is the celebration of the incarnation of God. Then ask if they know why He came to earth.
Regardless of the answer, I will then explain that He came for one purpose, to die for the sins of mankind. Then I will ask them if they know why sin is such a serious offense. The answer is because God is holy. You can then explain the gospel. I promise you that if you will step out in faith and do this, you will be amazed at how God will lead the conversation. This is not hard to do! If we will step out in faith God will work through us and we will be giving the message that can give someone eternal life! You will not believe the joy that comes from sharing your faith in Christ! Romans 1:16.
Luke 2:11″ For unto us is born this day in the city of David a Savior who is Christ the Lord!”
Here are 3 aspects of His person.
  1. Savior Jesus, His name literally means salvation. He is the one and only means by which a man’s sin can be forgiven.
  2. Christ, the anointed & appointed one of God. His specific appointment was not in anyway a glamorous one. His assignment was to die for the sins of mankind!
  3. Lord, the declaration is very clear. He is our eternal God. God has become a man for the sole purpose of reconciling sinful man with a Holy God. It is the most amazing of all realities! Praise God!

I encourage you to go out and share Christ this Christmas!

How to hand a tract to a cashier

Recently I was asked, “What do you usually say when you hand it (a tract) to a cashier, etc?” I emailed a reply to the person that asked. But, I thought the question was of general interest, so I thought it would be useful to share the information here as well.

In our Basic Evangelism Training Seminar, we teach to “always” say “Did you get on of these?” The questions promotes curiosity. One time, I was at lunch with a friend who had been to our seminar. I handed a tract to the cashier and said, “here is a Gospel tract for you.” The cashier took the tract and said thank you.

My friend looked at me and said, “I thought you were supposed to say ‘did you get one of these?'”

The point is, that is a guideline that works well in most situations. It works especially well at events where you are tracting a crowd. However, there is no certain thing you must say when handing out tracts.

Often, when I am checking out with a cashier, I will use the old stand by “did you get one of these?” and hand them the tract.

But then, sometimes I’ll say something like “here is a gift for you … it has a Gospel message on the back” or simply “here is a gospel tract for you”. I smile and hand the tract to them. Normally they will take it and say thank you.

If I have one with trivia, a riddle or some interesting facts, then I might introduce it as “here is some Christmas trivia for you” or “here is some football trivia for you”. Again, in each case, hand them the tract as you say it. You’ll be surprised, most people will take it. Most will say thank you!

When they ask what it is, you can say “a Gospel tract”. Then based on their responses you’ll start to sense if they are interested in talking. If they are, then ask “what do you think happens when you die?” or “do you think you are good enough to go to heaven?” Remember the tract serves both as a segway of the conversation and a gospel message they can read later.

If they will talk, that is great. The main thing is keep trying. The more you practice the more natural it will become. No two situations are exactly the same, but many are similar. So keep at it.

If you need tracts, you can enroll in the Bezeugen Tract Club for free!

October 31 – Halloween

Being out of town for at least the third year in a row meant we could not hand out tracts to the neighborhood children when they came to trick or treat. Instead, I saved my last Halloween “Great Pumpkin” tract and gave it to one of the workers at Dave and Busters while we were there.

This concludes handing out the Bezeugen Tract Club tracts every day (but one since there are 31 days and only 30 tracts) in the month of October. I hope these ideas have been helpful and encouraging to you to go and share the Gospel “as you go”.

October 30 – Riverwalk

We were in San Antonio for my son’s High School marching band contest. Between preliminaries and finals performances we went to the river walk for lunch. I gave a “reject Jesus” tract to the waitress when paying the bill.
