Ten Commandments

Day 150716 : Salt and Water

Got to hand out a number of tracts and talk to several people about Jesus today. On my way to work I had to stop by the post office. One the way back out another customer came in, so I handed her a Bucket List tract from the July mailing of the Bezeugen Tract Club.

I got off of work early and met my wife for a date! We went to the movies and saw Inside Out. That was fun. At the theater I gave MyCard to three employees working at snack bar. They were all checking to see if they were good enough to go to Heaven. The ticket taker got a Ten Commandments tract. After the movie ended, when I came back out four employees were waiting to clean the theater. Three of them were standing against the wall and one was holding the door. I gave each of the three Camo Cards, Ten Commandments and Are You a Good Person respectively. The third one asked “what is it?” so I told them they are Gospel tracts. When I went to hand one to the guy holding the door he reminded me that he already got one at the snack bar!

After the movie it was off to Buffalo Wild Wings for dinner. I handed a Get Out of Hell Free card to the host who seated us. After2015-07-16 19.28.05 we sat down and placed our drink order one of the hostesses came over holding the Get Out of Hell Free card. She said, “you gave this to someone when you came in….” Kind of funny is I was thinking, “oh, no”, I am about to get reprimanded for handing out tracts. Then she said, “can I get one too?” I asked if she was a Christian and she said, “kind of”. So I gave her a Get Out of Hell Free Card and then gave her a few other tracts that i had with me.

Then she explained further, “my grandmother is a Jehovah’s Witness, can you tell me the difference between that and Christian?” I told her that the full explanation might take a little while, but I’d summarize. Then I gave her my card and invited her to call me and she and I and my wife could have a longer conversation about it.

I explained to her that Jesus must be God in order to be the perfect sacrifice to pay for the sins of the world. I told her that if he was not God, and was just a man, then he would not be perfect and His payment on the cross would not be sufficient. She nodded in agreement. Then I said, “the difference between Christian and Jehovahs Witness is that the JW deny the Deity of Jesus.” I explained to her that John 1:1 indicates that the word was God and that John 1:14 indicates the Word became flesh. So I said, “from these two verses it is clear that Jesus is God.” Again she nodded in agreement.

I then explained that the problem with the Jehovah’s Witnesses is that they have a translation of the Bible that adds one letter there in John 1:1 which says the word was “a” god. In essence they strip the Deity of Jesus with one letter.

Finally I explained to her that there are many “Jesus’s” and that people call them all the same as if they are both the same. I picked up the salt shaker and my glass of water. I told her, let’s say I tell you these are both water. Then I offer you a drink. Which would you want to drink from? She pointed to the water.  I said, in the same way, it is important to follow the true Jesus!

She thanked me for the conversation. I invited her to email or call and I’d provide her more information.

When we paid the bill I left a Thank You tract for the waitress!

A Tract Holder At A Laundry Mat

I’ve got several tract holders and baskets at three laundry mats and one convenience store. I went to restock at the West Monroe location a few weeks ago, but it was gone. I got another one at Office Depot on Thursday. It holds about 60 – 70 tracts . I placed it there on Saturday. The tracts get taken! Pray that no one will take the holder!

Lunch for Levi

This morning I had a note from my wife that was very encouraging. Among other things it said, “Praying you get the opportunity to share the Gospel…”
After lunch I sent her a text that said, “that prayer was answered!”
Let me explain.
I was sitting at lunch eating my sandwich and reading an article on my phone. Suddenly there was a guy standing beside me asking me if I would buy him breakfast. I asked him to hang on a second since I was wrapping up reading. Then I talked with him. I asked why he wanted breakfast since it was nearly 1PM in the afternoon. He just wanted money. I asked when he had last eaten and he said yesterday. I showed him my bottle of water and told him “if you drink this, you’ll get thirsty again.” He agreed. Then I said, but I can show you where you can get some water that is more satisfying and you’ll never thirst again. He was interested and listened for a few minutes. Then he asked “are you going to give me some money.” I said, “no, but if you’ll listen, I’ll buy your lunch here.” He claimed it was too expensive. I gave him the option of my buying lunch for him or me walking away. He continued to listen.
I tried to take him through the Ten Commandments. He claimed he had never lied, stolen or hated anyone. Eventually he admitted he had a girlfriend and a daughter. I explained the only way he could have had a daughter without a wife would be to break the seventh commandment and explained that Revelation 21:8 said that all fornicators would end up in Hell.
I had his attention. So we went and got in line to buy him a burger. When we got up to the counter I handed him a tract with the Ten Commandments on it. At first he refused to take it. Then he asked for money for the subway and then if he could keep the change from the burger. I told him no. He still was trying to give back the tract. So I said, “I’ll give you a dollar to read this tract.” He said OK so I handed him a dollar. As I did he said, “two dollars, five dollars.” I said no, you agreed to read it for one dollar.
At that he said, “don’t you have to get back to work.” I told him I had a few more minutes. We had the buzzer that would go off when his burger was ready. So I had a few more minutes before it would be ready and he’d be gone. So I shared the good news with him and told him that God commands him like all people to repent and believe the Gospel. I left him with that. And went off rejoicing that I had the opportunity to share the good news with him.

A Mall + Tracts = Evangelism Adventure!

My family and I went to the mall tonight after work. The first stop was Burlington Coat Factory, where I gave Nathan a Man Card tract. He asked for another to give to his brother. It’s easy to hand out the new texting tract since just about everyone does text messaging. I gave out around 12 of these tonight. A few recipients were on there phones! (Check out the picture from the Best Buy mobile store!) I kept some million dollar bill tracts (from onemilliontracts.com) in my front shirt pocket. I believe the whole crew from Raising Cane’s took one when the cashier asked about them. When Chris took one, he talked about wanting to be with his deceased grand-parents in Heaven. I gave a Trivia Del Futbol tract to Santos, who said that he wasn’t a Christian. I left several tracts on the benches, counters, and at the blood pressure machine. I love going to the mall!

What’s this?

I pulled up to a gas pump over the weekend and there was a card stuck into it.

I was not sure what it was initially, so I turned the card over to see what it said.

It turned out that is a Mormon tract in Spanish! Not wanting anyone to be lead astray by it, I disposed of it properly.

And then replaced it with the truth!

A friend posted this tract holder on Facebook. You might be able to use something similar on your desk at work. Or if you run a small store, perhaps you could put one in there. Notice in the tract holder are our Ten Commandment tracts.
